  17. The data at the site came from the Clementine spacecraft operated by the 
  18. Navy, which mapped the moon using several different wavelengths.

  20. If the structures are a crashed probe, that was one huge probe.  I will 
  21. look at the scale, but I'm sure the crater is several kilometers across 
  22. since in some images the curvature of the moon's horizen is clearly 
  23. visible.  These long, crane-like structures are visible in or around 
  24. craters in several other photos I have from other missions.  Richard 
  25. Hoagland and Bruce Cornet and others have speculated that the long 
  26. structures are cranes or chutes used in mining operations.  The 
  27. Clementine mission itself was designed to identify mineral deposits, 
  28. since the wavelengths chosen were correlated with rock samples brought 
  29. back from the Apollo missions.
